It always feels a bit crazy when Jay is here. There is so much to try to fit in, and it feels like we are way too short on time. Between trying to get out for lots of cycling, there is work and many visits with friends.
This last week has passed in a blur of beautiful weather, gorgeous rides, winding journeys through idyllic countrysides, sleepovers, and fun. We had a big, raucous dinner at Chez Henri with friends from all over, some old, some new, lots of wine and tons of laughs. The next day we headed up to the Savoie to visit Didi and decided to take the circuitous route through small villages rather than the stressful motorway. What a wonderful thing to do, it doesn’t take much longer, and the treasures you find along the way are priceless. We stopped at an 11th-century ruin of a church and had a picnic lunch. This is the kind of thing you would never find on the nightmare that is the A7.
The weather was beautiful in the Savoie, and we had a lovely few days. We went into Chambéry for pastries and breakfast at the fantastic Boulangerie Hexagone, picked up some supplies for lunch and dinner then headed out for a challenging cycle in the afternoon with Laurent and Charlotte. The stunning loop around the massif des Bauges starting at Didi’s included the Col du Frêne and Col des Prés—which made for an intense and tiring afternoon—was followed by late birthday celebratory drinks and dinner.
After an excellent and much-needed sleep, Jay and I headed up to Annecy for a cycle around the lake. We took a quick look around the charming old town of Annecy and found a cute spot to stop for some nourishment along the bike route. There were hundreds of cyclists everywhere, and it was Monday! I can’t even imagine what it would be like at the height of the season. After lunch and pool time with Didi and Margaux, it was time to head back to Provence.
And here we are, with only a week left before Jason must leave again. Time is always too rapid when the weather is beautiful and the company wonderful. I wish I could make it last forever.
