It’s not unusual to get sick now and again, even in Provence. Often, though, it has happened to me late in the season, several times after a fun trip to Italy, Spain, Ireland, or wherever.
I wasn’t feeling well before leaving, but I thought I might escape the full wrath. Sadly, it was not meant to be, and last Friday it finally sank its claws right into me. Just a sinus cold, but it’s made me extra tired and super stuffy. And rather anti-social. I find it extra hard to want to chat with people when I can’t think straight. Catching up with friends was put on hold until just the other day, when I finally got out for a lovely ride with John, then had a wonderful little apéro the following day with Sarah and Peter.
Still, I went out on my bike most days, even if only for a few short kilometres. The jury is out on whether this is a good strategy for getting over a cold or not. But I just couldn’t resist. Some of the lavender is already gone, and this is truly one of my favourite times around here. I don’t want to miss it.
Though I think I may have turned the corner. I took a few days off work, which really helped. Not having the added stress of deadlines, emails, or emergencies was so peaceful. I forgot how nice it feels to let go and not feel guilty about any of it. I am sure it’s part of the reason I am on the mend. While a summer cold is a bummer, I am in a beautiful place filled with nature and blue skies, which I am certain makes it so much easier to cope.
