Every time we go to the ocean or sea, we always say we should spend more time there. It is so calming, beautiful, and soulful. Sadly, we never quite get enough time.
We had planned to spend more time in Bandol as neither of us had been before, but the weather wasn’t playing along. Incredibly odd for the first part of September, we had a couple of storms, followed by blustery mistral and cooler weather. So, while we planned a boat trip around the Calanques, Mother Nature had other ideas, and the ports were closed down. Given that Bandol is not too far from Marseille, we decided to wait until just before Jason had to leave to head south so he could go straight to the airport from the sea.
Bandol is a region famous for its rosé wine. Crisp, elegant, and classic, it’s an excellent expression of the place, and I’ve always wanted to go. I love the little towns on the Med, and Bandol seemed a bit like an upscale fishing village. We found a charming hotel close to the beach, and while the wind was blowing, the sea was very warm, the skies bright blue, and the temperatures still toasty. After time at the beach and ambling around the town, we made our way to dinner on the beach. We had all kinds of delicious seafood and Bandol rosé while watching the sunset on the day. It was the perfect spot and also seemed like the exact right thing to do while there.
This morning, we went back to the beach to see the sun rise over clear blue skies and then drove to Marseille. This day is always a hard one. I hate seeing Jason go, and this place is so much more wonderful with him here. Still, we had such brilliant rides, meals, visits, and dips in the pool while he was here. I am so very lucky to add these to my memory bank. I just wish he would stay here forever….
