Today is probably my favourite day of the year: the summer solstice.
On this specific favourite day, I am also happily back home in my favourite place. And boy is it summer! The cicadas are out in full force as the temperatures are up in the high 30’s for the next 10 days or so. A bit of déjà vu, given we had a heat wave this time last year as well. It seems summer arrives earlier each year, yet also departs rather abruptly. But I don’t even want to let that thought enter my mind at the moment, as there are still several glorious months of summer ahead.
Since I was here last, it has been another humdinger of a year with a lot of work and travel. Three trips to Toronto, one extended trip to Mexico, one trip to Vancouver, and a visit to Victoria just before heading here.
I am already exhausted from the year so far. I need to be in my favourite place to reset myself, my mind, my peace, and my body. As usual, I know being here will bring balance back into life. The only favourite thing missing currently is my favourite person. But hopefully, crossing fingers and toes, he’ll be able to be here soon enough.
Happy summer solstice everyone.
