Lost Beauty

I know beauty is subjective. I also understand not everyone is emotionally affected by aesthetic like some of us are. Some people don’t see the world, truly look at it, and that is fine. For those of us who actively see it, beauty is so important, without it one can feel lost and hollow.

I am beginning to mourn the loss of my idea of beauty. It’s not fancy purses or scarves, it’s not perfect make-up or hair or skinny bodies. What makes my heart leap and feel full to brimming is this place. Provence. I have been many places and seen natural wonders under the sea, at the top of a mountain and everywhere in between. There is a great deal of beauty everywhere, but nothing compares to this place.

For me, beauty is rather simple: a stunning blue sky, sunshine, vines, olive trees, mountains, valleys, lavender, ancient villages, quiet and fresh air. It’s alive and colourful, even in winter.

As my time here winds down, my eyes are ravenous for every last sight, my nose on high alert for the scent of this place. I am often close to tears from the bounty and joy this place brings me and I am soaking every bit of it up like a thirsty sponge.

Goodnight my beautiful Provence.
