Here we are, it's September already. Where does the summer go? I ask this every year as though I am surprised. It always goes far too quickly. You can see the lower angle of the sun and light, but thankfully here we still have summer heat. +36 today with a warm week ahead, I am enormously grateful it will continue on for a little while.
Another reason the time has gone at warp speed is because life has been insanely busy since Jason’s arrival. We’ve had so many social engagements and friends visiting, with more on the way, and still so much to try and squeeze in before he leaves again.
It was a slightly unusual start to Jay’s trip; with the +40-degree weather, we had to take it a bit easier. Shorter rides that finished no later than noon were necessary to avoid overheating. Usually, Jay hits the ground running with his first rides often over 100 kilometres. Not this time. Then the heatwave dramatically ended with some rain and the arrival of the Mistral, so there was limited cycling at that point as well. But we always managed to get out no matter what. Finally, the weather has bounced back to typical summery days and the cycling has increased exponentially. Now things are feeling back to normal! Today we had a lovely ride around Nyons and finished with a crisp, cold pression and some frites. It was decadent and fun.
I am always delighted to have Jason here, but wish the time wouldn't go as fast as it does. We’re still figuring out life here in Provence, so until then, these short visits will have to do. I will continue to enjoy every last minute I get.
