The gorgeous Provence weather returned this week with blazing sunshine and +30 degree-days. There is nothing finer than seeing that deep blue sky and feeling like summer will go on like this forever. OK, maybe not forever, but for a good long time thankfully.
This past week has been non-stop action from beginning to end, and not of the work variety. It’s been all about friends, laughter, food and summertime activities. A number of shockingly hot bike rides, including a torturous, bug-infested ascent of the Mont Ventoux, a visit to a boutique winery with unbelievably delicious wines, a hike through Les Dentelles, copious dinners and snackage and a few dips in the pool filled the days. This has been my official “vacation” week and it’s been so lovely to really let go and forget about what needs to be done. Just spend the days how you see fit, no alarms, no deadlines. And there is another week like this ahead, how delightful.
In addition to all the fun we also had some power outages, loss of internet, grumpy moments and some lost sleep. That is the thing about life; it can be brilliant and trying all at the same time, even in a beautiful place like this. So when people think my life here must be a version of fairy tale, think again. There is always something happening that makes me wonder if Provence is still in the dark ages. Any problem that arises is responded to with a shrug of the shoulders and a “Bienvenue à Provence”. Helpful? Absolutely not, but fairly standard. Alors, c’est la vie en Provence, the good, the bad, the fabulous and the beautiful!
Domaine des Enchanteurs; hiking the Dentelles with Nat & Jay; delicious tomato tart and a hot, big ride circumnavigating the Ventoux.
