Unexpected Hiccups

This week started off with a pretty intense amount of work, then settled into holiday mode. The weather has been hot, hot, hot, just as we expected. However, what we didn’t expect was getting sick.

Unfortunately, after a very long journey to arrive here with extended layover times, poor Jason promptly caught a cold. This is the first time this has happened and it’s most decidedly not something to be happy about. For the first time ever, I made a pot of chicken soup in the middle of summer heat.

Alas no cold ever stops Jason from riding his bike, so there has been a great deal of mileage made up. But it’s not like when you are feeling 100%. It’s hard to enjoy the bright blue skies when you are fighting with sinus pain, or revel in the delicious tastes of bread, cheese, sausage and wine when you can hardly taste anything. I feel terrible for him. And he feels bad thinking he’s holding us back. I actually don’t mind the change in strategy and plans. That is life. You just have to roll with the punches and if certain “traditions” end up on the back burner, c’est la vie. It’s not the end of the world. I just know how annoying it is to have such a short time to be in another place and not be feeling perfect the whole time. It’s a serious bummer

We are off to Spain in the morning for some new adventures. Here’s hoping some of the spicy food kicks Jason’s cold to the curb and sets him on a healthy path for the rest of his visit. Girona, here we come!
